Most people do not think so much about housing until they have a major life change and then the topic becomes very important. By doing so, if there is an unexpected life change, which can be challenging enough, there is not the added shock factor of a property not being valued as you thought it would.

This is not to say one should worry about the market. The market will go up and down, mostly cyclically and, until you sell, if it is trending down, it will not have any meaning to your financial situation, unless you are trying to pull equity out of the home.

This should be one of the factors considered when making a decision.
