Confessions of a Realtor (with a Past)

How does a person go from being a Chemist to studying Inter-Religious Dialog to being a Realtor? I am tempted to say that it started with a colicky baby and my privilege to put her care over a career that I loved, but I confess that I am also a person who consumes knowledge like cupcakes (and I love cupcakes). So my curiosity has led me and has helped shape me into a very different kind of Real Estate Agent.

So, if you are trying to sell a property, how is my experience and curiosity a service to you? In addition to my having been a full time, professional Realtor for over a decade, I am also able to study the real estate market in ways others would find challenging. I understand both the application and the limits of data, notice trends and know what information to look for in different markets.

Uniquely understanding the market is great for positioning your property to sell at the highest price, but it also works well in negotiations. Amicable, data based negotiations are often just intimidating enough for the other side to defer to our view. Add to this, my having studied Dialog on a Master's level (which included cultural and personality effects on conciliatory discussions) and you have yourself a Real Estate Agent who thrives in negotiations. And, when selling your property, you want that.

Lastly, I am a Poet. I fully appreciate the power of choosing the right words. There was a home on a lovely street in Woodbridge, CT that looked a little like a small apartment building out of West New York, NJ. It had been on the market for 5 years before I was asked to sell it. In describing her home, the owner got a little smile on her face when she said the neighbors had always hated her house. She was a rebel and she loved the home. I wrote an ad that said 'It was almost scandalous to build a home like this in Woodbridge, CT'. The ad brought in two buyers and the property was under deposit in just a few weeks. Bringing in the right buyers through niche marketing beats bringing in the most buyers every time. When a property does not sell, most will tell you it is the price. It is not. It is the marketing.

In addition to being a Realtor, I am very active in my community, am a member of the CT Poetry Society, a Poet and Past President of Woodbridge Rotary. In my spare time you can find me at the park with my dog, Timbi or spending time with my husband, Marc and our three adult daughters. Unless it is 2 in the morning, and then you will find me reading.

I donate 3% of my commission to your town’s Human Services Dept or local food pantry in your honor.
